The Navarathri festival is Nine Nights festival. Navratri is celebrated in the honor of Goddess Durga. Nine days of the festival witness the worship of nine different forms of Goddess Durga. The significance of Navratri is offering devotion to Goddess Amba (Durga), who is believed to exist in many forms. Nine varied forms of Durga is Maa Shailaputri, Maa Brahmacharini, Maa Chandraghanta, Maa Kushmanda, Maa Skandamaata, Maa Katyayani, Maa Kaalratri, Maa Mahagauri and Maa Siddhidatri.

Navratri begins on the first day of Ashwina of the bright fortnight. Navaratri are divided & devoted for the worship of Trinity of God in a female form - three days for Durga (Goddess of Energy) three days for Lakshmi (Goddess of Wealth) and three days for Sarswati (Goddess of Knowledge). The 10th day on which the goddess kills Mahishasura, is celebrated as Dusshera or Vijayadashami as the victory of good over evil.

The best part about the Navratri festival is the Dandiya and Garba dance. Traditional dances in the form of Dandiya and Garba take place almost everywhere. Men and women wearing colorful dresses. The dancers move around in a circle, with different steps around a lamp, which signifies the Eternal Light of the Durga.

In Mumbai usually Sharada Navaratri celebrated in the month of Septemper/October is celebrated on a huge scale. The whole city gets lighted up as the hearts of the people.
